Dongying Port is a Class-A open port and the airport has provided air flights to Beijing and Shanghai. The supporting water, electricity, road and communication facilities are well functioning. The city is a major player in the construction of highly efficient ecological economic zone in Yellow River Delta designated by Shandong provincial government.

 

Efforts are focused on such four segments as port industry zone, eco tourism zone, efficient ecological fishery and animal husbandry zone, advanced equipment manufacturing industry and high-tech industry zone. It is an international green industry demonstration park, National Sanitary City and Model City for Environmental Protection. In 2005, Forbes elected Dongying to be one of the 20 Chinese cities most suitable for factory establishment.

 

In November 2009, the State Council approved the "Development Plan for High-efficiency Ecological Economic Zone of the Yellow River Delta", incorporating the development of the Yellow River Delta region into the national development strategy. Dongying City, Shandong Province, as the center city of the Yellow River Delta, located at the core region and the main battlefield for building the high-efficiency ecological economic zone, is bound to make a speedy breakthrough in growth with a powerful explosive force for its huge economic opportunities and infinite potentials, becoming the Bohai Sea region's major growth pole and the national most dynamic and high-efficiency ecological economic zone. According to the planned layout "Four Zones and One Town", it is planned to build four major industrial zones from the north to the south within 1,000 square kilometers of the city’s east coastal region, including Harbor Industrial Zone, Eco-tourism Zone, Eco-efficient Agricultural Zone and High-end Industrial Zone, and making full use of water from the Yellow River, to build Dongying into a “Water Town of the Yellow River”, and make efforts to construct high-efficiency ecological industrial system.

7. 8.Eco-efficient Agricultural Base with the emphasis on ecological animal husbandry, ecological fishery, and establishment of parks with features
8. 9.Ecological Forest Demonstration Base with the emphasis on ecological forestry
9. 10.Marine industry focusing on mariculture, marine engineering and equipment manufacturing, and comprehensive utilization of seawater
10. 11.Modern service industry focusing on cultural tourism, modern logistics, finance, insurance, information technology and business services
