Dongying Port is a Class-A open port and the airport has provided air flights to Beijing and Shanghai. The supporting water, electricity, road and communication facilities are well functioning. The city is a major player in the construction of highly efficient ecological economic zone in Yellow River Delta designated by Shandong provincial government.

 

Efforts are focused on such four segments as port industry zone, eco tourism zone, efficient ecological fishery and animal husbandry zone, advanced equipment manufacturing industry and high-tech industry zone. It is an international green industry demonstration park, National Sanitary City and Model City for Environmental Protection. In 2005, Forbes elected Dongying to be one of the 20 Chinese cities most suitable for factory establishment.

 

 

 

 

 

The city aims to foster “7 major economic clusters” by making full use of the advantage of resources, distributing industries scientifically, developing chemical industry in coastal area and concentrating large and important projects in development zones and industrial parks. Firstly, with Dongying Harbor Economic Development Zone as the main body, implementing the strategy of co-development of harbor and the zone, and highlighting the development of industries in the fields of chemical, power energy, modern logistics, and supporting facilities in the fields of banking, insurance, business services, trading, culture, education, catering trade and residential areas, so as to develop it into an important high-efficient ecological area concentrated with fine chemical industry around Bohai Sea area, and a harbor industrial area; secondly, with the Natural Reserving Experimental Area as the main body, constructing ecological tourist area by developing the Yellow River estuary primary ecological area; thirdly, by utilizing such resources as offshore area, tidal-flat area, alkali area suitable for fishing and feeding grass, developing high-level aquaculture and animal breeding industry, so as to constructing it into a high-efficient ecological fishing and animal husbandry area; fourthly, with Dongying Economic Development Zone as the main body, developing advanced manufacturing sector and high-tech industry, so as to construct it into a manufacturing and high-tech industrial area; fifthly, highlighting Dongying’s characteristics as the Yellow River estuary, oil field, hometown of Sunwu, the famous ancient strategist, and the birthplace of Lu Opera, so as to cultivate the Yellow River Culture brand; and seventhly, with ecological environment improvement as the aim, carrying out the afforestation engineering along highway, rivers and around arable land, so as to strengthen the habitability of the environment.

Priority will be given to develop petrochemical, salt chemical, fine chemical, paper making, forest cultivation and timber processing, textile and garments, rubber products, machinery, electronics and foodstuff.

The 10th Five-Year Program of the People’s Republic of China on the Social and Economic Development firstly put forward, and the 11th Five-Year Program continue to address “the development of high-efficient ecological economy in the Yellow River Delta area”; the 9th Party Congress of Shandong Province resolved to “strengthen the construction of high-efficient ecological economic area in the Yellow River Delta area”; the 4th Party Congress of Dongying City reached the resolution of “implementing the overall development of the Yellow River Delta area in an all-round way”; and the 5th Session of the 5th People’s Congress of Dongying City resolved to “speed up the implementation of the strategy of the Yellow River Delta area development and construct the Yellow River Delta high-efficient ecological economic area in an all-round way”.

It is indicated that the development of the Yellow River Delta area has been the common strategy of Chinese central government, Shandong Provincial Government and Dongying Municipal Government. Hence the construction of the high-efficient ecological economic area has entered into a new stage. This youngest piece of land in China, with its rich resources, huge development potential and bright development prospect, attracts the attention home and abroad, and shows a promising future for the opening-up of Dongying City.
