The city is a major manufacturing base and one of the top nine financial cities in China with deposits and loans balance hitting 400 billion Yuan. It has 10 development zones above the provincial level and 11 other development zones and industrial parks.

Springs are the label of Jinan, as it is also called “City of Springs”. Baotu Spring, Thousand Buddha Mountain and Daming Lake are famous worldwide. There are 66 schools of advanced education, with an enrollment of 500,000 students. 500 out of 10,000 students are college students.

1. Advanced Manufacturing Sector
Giving priority to develop the advanced manufacturing sectors in the fields of heavy-duty trucks, cars, motorcycle, iron and steel products, forging and pressing equipment, numerical control machine tool, mining machinery, power plant boiler and electronic weighing apparatus. At present Jinan City owns more than 100 State-Owned enterprises with a total asset of nearly 40 billion yuan, involving 15 industries including electromechanical, chemical, light industry, commerce, construction, communications, etc., producing about 10 thousand kind of products in 37 categories.

2. New and Hi-Tech Industry
(1)Mainly developing IT, bio-engineering, new material and new energy industries. (1) IT industry. There are 56 enterprises engaging in software outsourcing, of which 14 enterprises passed CMM/CMMI international qualification, 7 got CMM3 qualification, and 1 was granted with CMM5 qualification, enjoying the capability of developing middleware, application software, information security software, embedded software, as well as exporting software, specified in the outsourcing businesses in the fields of finance analysis, data treatment and after-sale services. Jinan is the China International Information-Communication-Telecom Innovation Cluster (CIIIC), National Software Exporting & Innovation Base and National Service Outsourcing Base City respectively by Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Information Industry, enjoying great advantages for developing service outsourcing. As one of the national ten software industry bases covering an area of 6.5 sq.km., Qilu Soft Park is the software industry base with the largest land area and most complete functions in China, being awarded as one of the Manufacturing Bases of Software Industry of National Torch-Program and Bases of National Software Industry . At present there are nearly 300 enterprises in the park. Qilu Software College, located within the park, is a national software education demonstration college, being capable of providing adequate talented professionals to software enterprises with more than 3000 graduates majoring in software every year.

(2) Bio-medicine. Jinan boasts fast development of bio-medicine industry, and the yearly sale volume from bio-medicine industry reached more that 1 billion yuan. The famous brand products, such as “Runshu Moisten Eye Drops”, “Runjie Moisten Eye Drops”, “Qilu Pharmaceutical” and “donkey-hide gelatin of Shandong Fujiao Group”, and the famous brand enterprises, such as Qilu Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., Bausch & Lomb Freda Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., Qilu Antibiotics Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. and Shandong Fujiao Group, just as famous as the 72 prestigious springs in Jinan, jointly nourish the growth of Jinan’s pharmaceutical industry. At present in Jinan such medicine-related sectors as chemical material medicine and preparation, Chinese patent drug, medicine material crude slices, medicine package material and medicine auxiliary material have taken shape. Jinan’s production value of pharmaceutical industry ranks the 2nd in the province, and sale volume of pharmaceuticals accounts for 2/3 of the whole province.

3. Modern Service Sector
