As the Eastern Bridgehead of the Eurasian Continent, Rizhao enjoys unique development advantages. Rizhao has two national first-class open ports, namely, Rizhao Port and Lanshan Port. With favorable geographic conditions and broad land area, the two ports don’t freeze in winter and have no silts. With 36 productive berths, the two ports are suitable for the construction of deep-water berths above 100,000-ton level. A series of projects were constructed successively, 350,000-ton level ore wharf, the second biggest coal wharf of China, the biggest liquefied chemicals wharf in north of Yangtze River, container wharf and 300,000-ton level crude oil wharf. Now Rizhao Port has become the ninth largest port along the coast of China. The throughout broke through 130 million tons in 2007. Rizhao Port has already established navigation relations with more than 100 countries and regions, there are several international container lines between Rizhao Port and the outside world, and one cargo and passenger ferry line from Rizhao Port to Pyongtaek Port of the Korea.
Rizhao boasts convenient transportation with three railways and two highways. The railway linking up the ports extends to the west to Xi’an and leaves the country from Xinjiang Allah Mountain Pass, and then goes directly to Rotterdam Port of Holland and other European ports like Antwerp Port of Belgium. Qingdao International Airport is 140km away from Rizhao and Lianyungang Airport 120km, both of which can be reached within one and half hours.

A large scale coastal industry pattern with complete industries characterized by metallurgy, paper & pulp, oil & grain processing, steel, petrochemical and wood processing is gradually formed.
A group of large projects invested by world well-known enterprises both home and abroad such as Rizhao Steel, SSYMB Paper & Pulp, Korea WIA Engine, US Bunge Sanwei and French Air Liquid have begun to take shape. Other industrial products including farming vehicles, machinery, hardware, building material, petrochemicals, furniture, grain oil, textile and arts & crafts enjoy high recognition both home and abroad.

Rizhao is neither severe cold in winter nor intense hot in summer. The quality of atmosphere, sea water and fresh water is kept to be national fist class standard. The air quality is 100% up to the standard. The city has beautiful natural scenery featuring with “blue sky, blue sea and golden sand beach”. Enjoying abundant tourist resources, it has scenic sports like Mt. Wulian, Mt. Jiuxian and Mt. Fulai. The Gingko tree on the Mt. Fulai, is more than 3500 years old honored as the “No 1 tree in the world” With smooth beach, fine sand and crystal water, the 64-kilometer-long golden sand beach can rival the beauty of any other beach in the world.

Rizhao has been successively awarded many honorable titles, such as “National Model City for Garden Greening”, “China Top Tourist City”, “National Garden City”, “National Model City for Environmental Protection”, “China Hygienic City”, “National Model City for Mutual Support between Civilian and Armed Forces”, “China Water-Saving City”, “National Pilot City of Circular Economy”, “National Sustainable Development Experimental Zone”, “City for China Human Habitat Award” and “ National Model Green City”.

There are totally 6 universities in the Park with 57,000 students residing on the campus. Meanwhile, Qingda Hainuo Science & Technology Incubation Center of Tsinghua University, Rizhao R&D Base of Overseas Chinese Management Association, and Rizhao R&D Base of China National Institute for Educational Research have been established in Rizhao University Park.
